What is worth fighting for: The Steven Truscott Case

Steven Truscott Case

Steven Truscott a boy who was 14 when he was arrested for the murder of Lynne Harper. Both Lynne and Truscott were seen at there school last Air Vice Marshal Hugh Campbell School where Lynne asked Steven if she could ride on his bike with him.

Both Steven and Lynne were off then Lynne went missing. People claim that they saw them last at the school and them riding off. The military ordered a search party the Air force looked for her. Police found Lynne's body in the forest just with a singlet on and blood over.

She had been raped and killed the police assumed Steven raped and killed Lynne because he was last seen with Lynne before they vanished. Steven was tried as an adult in to court, while police believe that Steven rode to a tractor path on the way dropping off Lynne and forced her in the woods where then was raped and killed.

While Steven claimed that he gave Lynne a ride passing a bridge and continued on to highway 8 heading east. Once he dropped Lynne off he reached the bridge and looked back and saw Lynne getting in to a gray 1959 Chevrolet and driving off.

Steven was in prison for 10 years after those years Steven went on trial to claim they he was clean. The court decided since they can't find all the evidence they said they will release him but will watch him.

There is one big hole in the evidence against Steven. One of them is that if he had raped and killed Lynne, why was there no blood on him or his clothing? He is said to have strangled her, so were his fingerprints not found on her. Also, if he had really raped Lynne, was not her blood found on him? Unfortunately, DNA testing was not available at that time to pin the needle on the real killer!

Another question is why the police failed to follow up on the "gray 1959 Chevrolet" that Steven saw driving away with Lynne.

Why was Steven tried as an adult then? He was only 14 years old when this took place. If Canada says it is a country which values human rights then why did it fail to recognize the rights of this young adolescent?

Steven also spent 10 long yeas in an adult prison - certainly a terrifying experience for any young person. Again, a violation of the "rights of a child."

Had the writer Isabel LeBourdais not written a book that showed the wrong that had been done to Steven, he would not be free today! Steven lost ten young years of his life due to the unprofessional way in which his case was handled by the police and his lawyer.

As Steven was released after ten years, did the court awarded him $6.5million as compensation. But can money buy all those lost years of his childhood?

What Is Worth Fighting For

FREEDOM OF SPEECH

Freedom of speech is the ability for one to speak his voice without fear of any persecution or repercussions. In most countries around the world, such freedom is not evident as there are limitations to what you can say, where you say it and when. Government officials are not allowed to say much at all about how a government is run, or be critical of the government, in most countries around the world including the ones where freedom of speech is a way of life.

If one visits London, one parks in that city is the home of the 'soap-box orator' - or where you can watch orators stand on their soap-boxes speak freely to the people gathered there. It is an interesting experience to watch and listen to these speakers talk on a wide range of topics - from asking you to repent as the world is ending to how governments are constantly spying on you!

These speakers rarely, or almost never, are picked up by the authorities because they talk on subject stat the governments feels is not dangerous to its security.

However, I am sure that these orators would not say something that can cause wide-spread panic and that their audience knows that most of these speakers are out there just letting go of some frustration. Also, they would not say anything harmful against any private individual without facing a lawsuit later on.

Most citizens of countries around the world allow a limited amount of freedom of speech - as long as it is within the limits of the laws of that country. There are some countries, however, like Myanmar, North Korea, Cuba, China, etc... where freedom of speech is a dream. Myanmar and North Korea, and even China label people who talk against the government as "dissidents" and jails them. Sometimes, such people just 'disappear' and never return.

What Is Worth Fighting For

AUNG SAN SUU KYI

Aung San Suu Kyi

Aung San Suu Kyi is the world famous icon for freedom and democracy in Burma (now called Myanmar). No one else from Burma can say that they have done more for democracy there than Suu Kyi. Her father was one of the people who negotiated for independence of Burma from the British and also the founder of the Burmese Independence Army. Her mother was appointed as the Ambassador to India in 1960.

She went to work in the UN till 1971. The following year she went to work in Bhutan and that is where she met her husband, Michael Aris. They got married in 1972 and had two sons - Alexander Aris in 1973 and Kim in 1977. Both sons are British citizens. In 1997, her husband was diagnosed with prostrate cancer and died two years later on his 53rd birthday on March 27. The military government of Burma refused to let him visit his wife during the last four years of his life. Instead, they allowed Suu Kyi to leave, but she did not because she was afraid that if she left they would not let her return. This is one of the thing that made her fight for democracy because they did not let him visit her during the last four years.

On August 8, 1988, or 8888 as it is known in Burma, students let a big protest for democracy. They were shot at by the soldiers and thousands were killed. After this is when the National League for Democracy was formed in Rangoon. Aung San Suu Kyi is the General Secretary of the party.

Aung San Suu Kyi has been under house arrest for more than 15 of the 21 years she has been back in Burma. She was released from house arrest on 13 November 2010. After her mother died in December 1998, she told the people of Burma that she would continue to fight for democracy in that country till she died just as her parents had.

For her fight for democracy, Aung San Suu kyi has won many international awards, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991, a Congressional Gold Medal in 2008, the Mahatma Gandhi Award for Peace and Reconciliation in 2009, etc... Aung San Suu Kyi believed, like Gandhi that Peace could be achieved without violence.

My Voice. VS. Your Ego

I am matter that bespeaks
but too inarticulate to express
though I try with conviction
and exert aggressively
my mind, body and soul,
to express myself
and my ideas
that believe so strongly in.

I try
so that I am noticed by you,
but what you think
matters more to you
and your actions,
to what i believe so strongly in
are simple and swift
- you so aggressively and tragically chop them down!

I suffer
the humiliation
of my inarticulate self becoming
more disarticulate.
What I suffer will always
have nothing to do with you.

Options, I have none...
but had I one
It would be
to chop down
Your Inflated Ego,

The meaning of this poem is frustration. Usually in life everyone has had some frustration at some time. In school, the frustration can be v=caused by teachers or peers who don"t see the point of view of the writer. In later life, it is caused by people who have power, like policemen, employers, the government, etc.
Most often when ones view is not seen, or voice not heard, that person is
frustrated. The person may feel like taking extreme action like "chopping down ones ego."

In this new world the thing I would have people be able to live in enslaving freedom for a person to live his or her life with out thinking about war or them. To live free is a gift other people in the world don’t have freedom they are enslaved by the rulers or a person who has power over them I want to create a better world that people live there life who wants a world like the Jews did they wanted to live in a better world like we are in now people should have a chance to live this world to do what you want no evil no bad people where you don’t have to do things to earn your freedom live a happy life with your family free for your kids to run free and play when they want. I want to make a world that people can live in till the end if I was the creator of the universe I would make all the planets in that universe for people to live freely and the willed life the animals to run on lands have a home to live in no trees cut down the animals need there freedom to they cant live a life chained up locked up like a prisoner be hind bars every thing on this planet now earth has the right to live free even the plant life on earth the aquatic creators too.

They all have a chance to live in this new world this is what I chose if I have a chance to make a new world.

Lutrell Psalters

1.What is the Lutrell Psalters? It is an illuminated document that was ordered by sir Geoffrey Luttrell. It is one of the first few christian documents that writes about daily life. What does it portray. It has a calender, how mass is said, songs, prayers, etc... it is called an illuminated document because it not only tells of the daily life of people but also has hand painted colored pictures showing the events. The pages have borders and richly decorated with bright coloreds and even gold paint.

2. The sources are: www.bl.uk , en.wikipedia.ord/wiki/Lutrell_Psalter?wasRedirected=true

3. Why is it a unique document? It is unique because it was one of the first few documents in the world that holds and shows what happened in the daily life of the people at that time. The document told of there life's of different people-family's, noblemen, farmers, children, priest, etc... Since the Lutrell Psalter was decorated with pictures and in full color, it was realay unique. It was like a modern day book with photographs to show what happened. In other words it was a fully illustrated book.
